Health Action Charity Organisation (HACO) (ME7 5TP)

Aims to bring about a significant and long-term improvement in the sexual health of people from African and other black and ethnic minority communities in Medway, Swale and Eastern and Coastal Kent area. HACO participates in the National African HIV Prevention Programme (NAHIP). Services include: presenting information and available options to local African people in relation to sexual health and HIV, providing one-to-one support in a range of areas, providing information on other services, attending African and other BME-related venues and events to carry out sexual health promotion work, assessing where target population can best be accessed and what services are already being accessed by them. HACO works collaboratively with African and other BME groups around events such as World AIDS Day, Black History Month and Independence Day, and also with statutory health services such as GUM clinics, PCTs and hospitals. HACO operates two-way referral systems with GUM clinics, Citizens Advice Bureau, local authority housing departments, immigration services, prison services and other statutory and voluntary agencies.
