A community-based drug service comprising drug workers, doctors, nurses, social workers, a psychologist and psychiatrist. Information and counselling given on all aspects of substance misuse to service users, their families and carers. Flexible substitute prescribing programmes and inpatient detoxification and rehabilitation. Community care assessments for day programmes and inpatient detoxification and rehabilitation. Testing and pre- and post-test counselling for HIV and hepatitis. Vaccination for hepatitis B. Health education on safer sex and safer drug use. Free injecting equipment and condoms. Dedicated crack/cocaine workers. Psychological interventions. Shared care programmes working with local GPs in the community. Hospital liaison service. Drug Intervention (Criminal Justice) programme. Psychiatric assessment, advice and support on mental health issues. Proof of address should be brought in on day of assessment.
